Learning Light

Join me as I share my experiences interning at this remarkable firm, where I’ve been learning, growing, and contributing to a variety of fascinating projects.

My Week at the Firm:

Wednesday, June 5th: I started my day by logging into all my accounts and diving into the world of social media marketing. From 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, I ensured all systems were go for the day. The next few hours were spent crafting engaging Instagram reels and captions for the upcoming week, organizing pictures for new reels, and getting the firm’s social media content in order. By the end of the day, I also took care of some office maintenance tasks, such as watering plants and taking out the trash.

Thursday, June 6th: Back at the office, I focused on learning and adapting to new software. The challenge of mastering these new tools was met by watching tutorials and asking plenty of questions, a strategy that has significantly boosted my confidence and efficiency. The afternoon included organizing the firm's design closet, ensuring all samples were in their proper places, and preparing materials for a client meeting. I also organized Houzz selections, helping streamline our design process.

Friday, June 7th: The week concluded with hands-on projects. I assisted with the installation of Roman shades and took precise measurements for window treatments, tasks requiring precision and an eye for detail. I also selected hardware for one of our clients, balancing aesthetics and functionality. Later, I ordered samples for another client and conducted site visits for purchasing hanging plants. In the office, I continued refining my skills on Houzz, improving my time management, and learning how to efficiently order from manufacturers. The depth of new skills I’ve acquired, from better product resources to overcoming software challenges, has been invaluable.

Challenges and Learnings:

Adapting to new software was a significant challenge I faced during my first week. However, by watching tutorials, asking questions, and practicing diligently, I was able to learn and adapt. Throughout this week, I not only learned how to use Houzz more effectively but also gained better software and time management skills. Additionally, I learned how to order from manufacturers and discovered new, better product resources. These experiences have enriched my understanding of the industry and equipped me with practical skills that will benefit my future career.
